About Cynthia
Cynthia Berg Polsan is an artist best known for her range of sculpture extending from classical figurative bronze to contemporary works. She sculpts in clay, wax, wood, and paint and incorporates significant detail in her work.
Born in Seattle, raised in Los Angeles, Berg Polsan comes from a family of builders, artists, and inventors. She experimented with a number of artistic mediums throughout her life that included the design of large neon sculptures, illustration, and musical performance.
In 1996 she received a complimentary class in fantasy sculpture with renowned special effects artist, Jordu Schell, where she learned to create imaginative character sculpture. She studied with him for two years and in 2002-2004 deepened her study of anatomy and classical sculpture at the LA Academy of Figurative Art. Additionally she took coursework at Otis Art Institute as well as the Florence Academy of Art in Italy.
Her work is informed by the diverse cultural landscape of Los Angeles. Her subjects are varied and depict themes of humanity. Her artistic influences are many and range from the work of master sculptors like Vigeland, Moore, and Claudel to several contemporary sculptors..
Berg Polsan has shown at JMG in Santa Monica, CA; Belle Artes Gallery in Hollywood, CA; Park Gallery in San Francisco: J.Miller in Denver, CO.; and Michael McGuire Gallery in Provincetown, RI. Juried shows include the Sausalito Art Show, Huntington Gardens in Pasadena; and the Beverly Hills Art Festival. Her collectors are domestic as well as international. She is a member of the California Art Club, the National Sculpture Society, and the International Animated Film Society (ASIFA).
Cynthia Berg Polsan currently resides in Sonoma County and has an art studio and gallery in Healdsburg, CA. She continues to work in Los Angeles as well.
